Obituary of Frank Kazdan

On Sunday, July 19th Frank Kazdan passed peacefully at the age of 93. He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Rita Kazdan, his brothers Edward (Jean) Kazdan, and Sam (Minnie) Kazdan and sister Mary (Sidney) Brody. He is survived by his longtime companion Sandy Epstein, sons Cary (Christine) & Edward (Kim) Kazdan, his grandchildren Rachael, Nicholas, Joshua & Jacob. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and his faithful dog Max.

Frank was born in Fergus Ontario Canada on June 26, 1927 to Max & Molly Kazdan. He served two tours of duty; 2 years for the Canadian Merchant Marines during WWII (He celebrated his 17th birthday out at sea) and 2 years for the US Army during the Korean War. He met his wife Rita while visiting Rochester and got married on Sept 4th, 1949. They briefly lived in Canada but he immigrated to the US for good in 1950. He worked various jobs including restaurant manager, bowling alley manager, and then drapery installer for Curtain Time. Around 1971 he started his own companies C & E Drapery Design and a few years later Drapes and Spread Boutique. He converted a Motor home into a store salesroom and was Rochester’s first Store to Door salesman of this type. He did this for more than 30 years. When he finally retired from that he started as a bus driver for special needs kids which he did well into his 80’s. He was active in various local organizations. He served as Past Commander of both the Jewish War Veterans as well as the Knights of Pythians and was a longtime member of the Masons.

He was laid to rest on July 22nd in a private graveside service in Britton Road Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in his name to Special Olympics [LINK].
