Dear Rivka, Barbara, Rafi and the entireSilver/Chatman Family,
Mary Jane and I send you our deepest condolences.
What is there to say about one of my true heroes?
Mike became a part of my life in 1984, when I became CEO of the Jewish Home. Truly, when I think Jewish Home ~ I immediately think Mike Silver.
For more than twenty years I was fortunate to work with and learn from this whirlwind of a man. Mike made the Energizer Bunny appear sedentary ~ perhaps from his Jewish farm-boy upbringing. While many wonderful people were involved, it was Mike’s foresight, drive and his never-ever-giving-up attitude that was the driving force for the move from St Paul Street to Brighton, the Atkin Center and the Summit at Brighton and so much more. The Jewish Senior Life of today would not be what it is without Mike's determination, loyalty and chutzpah.
Mike also knew ~ from deep down in his mensch heart ~ that sensitive care to the aged would only come from a staff that was respected, cared about and cared for. He was always a great help to me to make this happen.
I believe I speak for the Jewish Community and the larger community of residents, families and staff of the Jewish Home for over 60 years ~ Mike, we thank you for championing this community gem every day of your adult life.
Mike, I will always be grateful that you were part of my life!
