Obituary of Paul I. Roxin
Paul I. Roxin
Passed away on March 15, 2013, at 96 years young. Predeceased by his parents, Katie & Jacob Roxin; siblings, Tillie, Moses, Alice & Lester. Survived by Beatrice, his beloved wife of 61 years; children, Wendy (Gary) Wicks, Debbie (Don) Waltzer and Rick (Amy) Roxin; grandchildren, David, Brittany, Lisa, Madison, Haley, Ted (Jen), Michael, Jeffrey, Sarah & Abbey; two sisters-in-law and many cousins, nieces & nephews.
Having earned his pilot's license at age 16 flying bi-planes, Paul developed a lifelong love of aviation. He will forever be remembered for his strength of conviction, sense of humor, optimistic outlook and ability to make people smile.
Paul had three distinct and colorful careers: as an air traffic communications officer for the Civil Aeronautics Administration, a manufacturer's representative for General Electric Co., and author of ONE FOOT ON THE GROUND (link to Paul's book) a compilation of stories recognizing local aviators from World War II, which he signed at area Wegmans stores and at Eastview Mall. An arts lover and a doer who faithfully practiced his clarinet every day, Paul founded the Brighton Symphony Orchestra and the Brighton Light Opera Company. He was also co-founder of the Geriatric Pilots' Association, and was a proud former board member of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. The family wishes to thank the wonderful health care providers at Strong Memorial Hospital.
