Obituary of Henry N. Silberstern
Passed away on October 25, 2016, at the age of 86. Predeceased by his parents, Dr. Jan and Edita Silberstern; and brother, Rolf Silberstern. Also predeceased by his family, Miriom and Max Donn; sisters, Estelle (William) Budd and Helen (Gordon) Wasserman; and in-laws, Joseph and Leah Bregger of Buffalo, New York. Survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Beneta (Bregger); daughters, Edith (David) Silver and Jan (Seth) Abrams; grandchildren, Jonathan (Paula) Silver, Michael Silver, Samuel (Zoe) Abrams and Daniel Abrams; great-grandchildren, Isaac and Evita Silver and Max and Henry Abrams; sister, Joy (Charles) Feldman; nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Born in Teplice, Czechoslovakia, Henry was a Holocaust survivor of five different concentration camps, only to be liberated on his 15th birthday from Bergen-Belsen. Henry was also part of the infamous selection of Dr. Mengele, and was one of 89 out of 500 boys that survived. Henry was a graduate of the University of Buffalo, and was the director of Data Processing at Roswell Park Memorial Hospital until his retirement. Upon retirement, Henry and his wife moved to Rochester in 1997, where he became involved with The Center for Holocaust Awareness and Information, and spoke to hundreds of students each year in Rochester and in the suburbs.
Funeral Services will be held on FRIDAY at 9:00 AM at Temple B'rith Kodesh located at 2131 Elmwood Avenue.
Interment, private.
The family will sit Shiva at 77 Maybrooke Road in Brighton on Saturday and Sunday from 7 – 9 PM, and on Monday and Tuesday from 2 – 4 PM and 7 – 9 PM.
Donations may be made to Temple B'rith Kodesh or The National Holocaust Museum in Henry's memory.
In honoring Henry's memory, the family asks that you support somebody less fortunate who needs a helping hand.
