I am deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Silberstern's passing. I first met Henry, as he affectionately asked us to call him, when I was enrolled at SUNY Brockport, taking the Holocaust Literature course. Henry came in as one of the Holocaust survivors we were so privileged to meet and shared his experience with us. The following year, I participated in a video interview with Henry for another student's project. When I received my teaching position at Alexander Central School and started a Holocaust Literature elective, my students expressed interest in hearing a Holocaust survivor share his/her experience. Henry was the first person I wanted to ask, and through the Rochester organization, we were able to arrange a Sunday evening event where we practically filled the auditorium with students, parents, staff, and community members, all attending to honor Henry and listen to his courageous experience. A few years later, I heard that Henry recalled that event with a mutual friend and remembered me, which touch my heart. I wish to express my deepest condolences to Henry's family and friends. I wish I could attend the services Friday, but there are obligations at school that day I cannot miss. Please know that I will be sharing Henry's life and having a moment of silence for him as I hold my Holocaust Literature elective class that same day.
With warmest regards, Megan Wright

I am sorry for the loss of such an amazing man. He will be greatly missed. He helped add so much to the educational experience of countless students at Merton Williams Middle School, and Hilton High School. He added a great deal to my experience as an educator, as well. He was open, honest, and genuine. This allowed the students to really engage in what he was sharing, and his life as a boy. He shared his gift of knowledge, and experience. I really enjoyed getting to know Mr. Silberstern, and send my condolences to his family, friends, and community.

For more than 10 years Henry came to my world history classes to share his story. My students like thousands of others were touched and in awe of his strength and generosity. His presence in my classroom brought history to life and engaged students with the horrors of the world around them in a way no other lesson could. I am deeply blessed to have known Henry.

I did not have the pleasure of personally knowing Mr. Silberstern but one cannot feel touched, humbled and quite frankly awed by just reading his short obituary. It is a quick reminder of the fragility of life and how one man with survival skills, strength, fate and luck was able to create such a legacy for generations. It also sheds light on where my good friend EDIE gets her caring and wonderful personality.
Warm Regards and thoughtful prayer,
Tim Schmandt

My thoughts and prayers go out to Mr Silberstern's family at this sad time. Mr. Silberstern... Henry...was a wonderful, warm, humble, yet quite influential man, whom I feel extremely privileged to have known. As he did for many teachers in the area, Henry visited my classes when we were studying the Holocaust. My students were always thrilled to meet Henry and truly appreciated the time he took to share his experiences with us. Thank you, Henry. You will be missed.

I had the great fortune to travel twice with Henry to Germany and Poland as part of The March: Bearing Witness to Hope program. He was a warm, sensitive, honest, and kind man who had a tremendous impact on all of us through his willingness to open up and tell his story. Like everyone else on the trip, I also have very strong memories of Henry's good humor and zest for life. I am very sorry for your loss.
