There comes a time to retire from our professional lives and enjoy life to its fullest. I was a patient of Harvey since 1976 when I moved to Rochester. He came highly recommended by a friend from my hometown who lived in Rochester.
Unfortunately, I was a patient that needed lots of dental work due to bad genes and a love of sugar. Harvey never scolded me for the later, always made me feel at ease, gave me the best of care in the chair, along with a healthy dose of financial advice. I kidded him that he should put up a second sign under the “shingle” hanging out side the office by the road which read simply, “Financial Consultant”. He would talk about the merits of investing in precious metals as he put some in my mouth. I did not always agree with his advice, but sometimes did, as it was thoughtful.
On our visits, we would laugh, and share family stories and other things in life. Apparently, that is a family tradition carried forward by his capable son, Dan, who now has the privilege of offering advice to me as he places the benefit of some of Harvey’s advice into my mouth.
I still carry most of what he placed in my mouth, and all of what he put into my heart. Honor Harvey by leading by his example of love, compassion and gentle advice. We all need some help from time-to-time, and I know for sure, the Phillips family needs our support at this hour.
Regretfully, I could not attend the funeral, but I am sure he would not disagree with my choice of a winter get-away in Florida that now separates us.
Rest in Peace my good man. You made a positive difference in the world!
