Jeff’s was a life well spent doing society’s work of making “with justice for all” a reality for some of the least privileged among us, guiding his sons to a manhood we hope will be as meaningful as his, and being fortunate enough to be able to share half of his lifetime with a wonderful mate, but one that ended far too soon. I met Jeff once, at the Labor Day party at his house. It was a difficult time for me, and he went out of his way to make me feel welcome, and even loved. He struck me as a person full of compassion, with the deep inner serenity that comes from living one's ideals. God's ways are truly mysterious. I am struck by the sense of loss that I feel from his friends, even at a distance. I offer my deepest condolences.

Our sincere condolences to the family of Jeff Jacobs. We have known and worked with Jeff in the Hall of Justice for years and we had a good and friendly relationship with him. Jeff was a very good lawyer, smart and sharp, and he advocated strongly and effectively for his clients in Court. Jeff was a warm and friendly person and he got along well with everyone in the building everyone liked him ! Jeff usually had a funny story to tell and he much enjoyed telling and hearing funny stories his face would light up with the biggest smile ! We will miss him, too. This weekend, at our Church, a communal prayer will be said, praying for eternal rest and peace for our friend, Jeff Jacobs.

To me, Jeff was someone to look up to, talk to, laugh with and learn from. As a new attorney, I could always go to him to get the most authentic, un-sugar coated, sage advice. He will continue to inspire all of us at the P.D.'s office. Jeff, watch over us in our efforts to defend and say ""hi"" to Jerry for us! Words cannot express just how much you will be missed.

Andrea, It was so sad to hear of Jeff's passing at church yesterday from Melissa. Our sincere condolonces to you, Justin & Jarrett. Jeff was such a wonderful friend & great attorney. We often talked about the Knicks and their poor performances and our own golf game whenever I stopped in the PD's office. He often talked about his sons & how well they were doing in school. He loved Justin & Jarrett very much & was so proud of them as a father & husband. Our prayers is that his memories will confort you during your sorrow. Know that "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away" - Revelations 21:4 We love you. Jeff Jacobs was the example of exactly who an attorney should be. He very a vigorous advocate for his clients. Where there was injustice he tried to right it. He not only protected his clients, he protected us all by upholding the Rule of Law. Jeff made us all proud to be lawyers. This weekend I saw the movie "Bobby". Bobby Kennedy was loved by many because he advocated for those with little voice in our society. He represented hope for many. Jeff Jacobs gave many hope, hope that our justice system would work. Sometimes it did and sometimes it did not.Nevertheless he never quit trying. I am sure that Jeff is now representing those in purgatory advocating for their joining him in heaven. Be proud of all Jeff accomplished during a life ended much too early. God Bless your family. Frank Geraci

Andrea, I am deeply sorry to learn of Jeff's passing. The past 8 months have been a time of unimaginable struggle and sacrifice for all of you. I know that your courage and determination through Jeff's battle with cancer brought him great strength and comfort. While I never had the chance to meet Jeff, I feel as though I knew him through my many conversations with you. Having read many of the other memorials, it is clear that Jeff touched the lives of many people. The true greatness of a man is not determined by financial wealth, but rather by the abundance of love and devotion from his family and friends. Jeff was truly a great man whose spirit will live on in those who hold him forever in their hearts. My heart goes out to you and your sons. I will keep you in my prayers.

I was so sad to hear today of Jeff's passing. I worked at the PD's office for 6 years until august of 2005. When I was just a fresh new attorney and didn't really know Jeff yet, I would see him in court and hear him in the office and be in awe of his confidence and take no prisoners attitude. As I began to know him and interact with him as a colleague in felonies, I truly admired his fearlessness in court and how he never compromised in defending his cients to the fullest. He always helped put things in perspective and he definitely gave me the confidence and fire I needed to make it through a sometimes very difficult and stressful job. Jeff was a fantastic attorney and person and I'm so thankful I had a chance to know him. I will carry with me the things I learned from and experienced with him for the rest of my life. I hope you all find comfort in knowing he truly enriched my life forever and will never be forgotten.

Along with the difficult days ahead will come good days and great memories that will give you the strength to endure, not to mention he's present in anyone and anything he's touched.

Jeff was a trial attorney in my court from 1993-1996 when I was a state judge. We tried many difficult felony criminal trials together. Jeff was a wonderful attorney who was always prepared. What I liked best about Jeff was that even though he fought like hell for his clients--he won a number of cases in front of me--he was always joyful. He never took it personally. He loved his wife and kids and spoke of them often. He always had a insightful or original view of his case. He was what is right about our profession. Richard Wesley

To the Jacobs Family: We are deeply saddened to hear about Jeff's passing and wish to express our sincere condolences to you at this difficult time. It is hard to believe that Jeff, a friend, a mentor, a fellow PD and an unapologetically passionate advocate for our clients will no longer be with us. Jeff embraced life so fully, so passionately, so authentically (& on his own terms). Without a doubt, those very attributes will keep him in our hearts, on our minds and etched in our memories forever.

Jeff was a great man. Whenever I would come to the Public Defender's office to visit my mom, Mary Davison, Jeff's office was a priority of mine to visit. I just learned about Jeff from Larry K and Bill Easton. We are very sorry to hear of it. Please accept our sincere condolences. I worked with Jeff for almost ten years at PD's in the 1980's. In a job that was often filled with stress and tension, running into Jeff in the office, the courthouse, or at the jail visiting a client was always a refreshing encounter because Jeff was in a good mood and lifted my spirits.
