I grew up with Steve and many a day and night was spent at "Bakers"..Carl would always pop in- see what we were up to & sometimes join us. He used to refer to my other 3 friends & myself as" his boys" & we always felt welcome- I happened to see Carl / Mr. Baker duing my last trip to Rochester & feel glad I was able to see him one last time-- as Tom Brokow would say- "Mr. Baker is/was one of the greatest generation"--it is sad like this when men like him pass--they are never replaced in the type of personal dignity & stature they had & the difference he made with other people Neil Stiller nsnla@att.net

That Carl Baker smile was always on display for all to see. Carl and my dear departed Father Joe were buddies for as long as I can remember. As small children we'd visit the muffler shop and those two would joke and laugh long after this small child was ready to leave. When I was seventeen I got my first car, a 1962 Ford Fairlane. The muffler shop on (?) State St was the first place Joe took me so Carl could give it "the once over" to inspect it for safety. Here's my most vivid memory. When the work was done, and it needed a little work. Carl slapped the NYS state inspection sticker on the windshield and wouldn't charge me anything. He made me feel like a member of the family.
Our Sephardic community has lost a pillar of strength, kindness and love. I'll never forget you Carl. You most certainly will be missed. Goodbye old friend. :-(

Carl had been our neighbor across the street for nearly ten years. We didn't know him well but knew that he had a very kind heart. He sent over a stuffed teddy bear with the birth of each of our children. We're very sorry for your loss and are thinking & praying for you.

To our good friend Carl, we will miss you greatly. It was an honor and pleasure to be your neighbor over these past years. You always knew how to brighten our day. I'll never forget the time you let Adrianna borrow an egg for some cookies, or when Mary locked herself out of the house and we had a good chuckle about it. You were a funny, reliable friend who will be dearly missed!

I worked as a waitress at Pete & Lori's Restaurant on state street in rochester. I waited on Carl and Sol every morning and took coffee over to them just about evey afternoon. As most people, myself (workers from kodak) anytime we had a problem with the car, Carl was there, just like he was there for everyone. Carl ALWAYS had a joke and a kind word for EVERYONE! He was loved and respected by many and will be SADLY MISSED BY ALL. HE WAS WONDERFUL PERSON!!

As a kid on Rawlinson Road, I practically lived at the Baker's house. Carl was always an easy-going guy that loved to have fun. I have great memories of summers at the pool, temple picnics, carpooling to and from Hebrew School (thanks to Janis for always rescuing us). He was a gift and we are all so much better for having known him and all of his siblings. They were quite a special group of people.

As a kid on Rawlinson Road, I practically lived at the Baker's house. Carl was always an easy-going guy that loved to have fun. I have great memories of summers at the pool, temple picnics, carpooling to and from Hebrew School (thanks Janice). And whenever we were at a celebration Carl would always make sure we had one dance together, even from the time I was an awkward kid. He was a gift and we are all so much better for having known him.

I guess it was somewhat fitting that I had my muffler replaced on the same day that Papoo passed. If only I had him there to talk the price down for me.

My Papoo was the finest grandfather anyone could ask for. Every time I talked to him, he would always begin the conversation by asking; “What can I do for you?” Papoo was sincere when he said that and was always there to help our family. It was his pleasure to help others. Papoo brought a great deal of happiness to the people around him. I always cherished our time together and the wisdom he frequently provided me. Papoo was truly a mench and his virtuous spirit will live on in all of our memories.
