Obituary of Bert D. Butler

Having passed away at the tender age of 98, Bert Donald Butler will be remembered as loving life, loving his family, loving his work, and, of course, loving to bring a smile to everyone’s face. He always had a joke ready, no matter what the circumstances. Anyone that ever had the pleasure of going out to eat with him will surely remember seeing him wander the restaurant looking for an audience to impart his latest joke.
Bert was married to his childhood sweetheart for 75 years and loved her madly. He often tells the story of their first meeting, how he saw her across the room (she was 14) and knew he would someday marry her. It took several years, but he accomplished his goal.

Even in his last days, he was surrounded by friends and family and continued to practice his lifestyle of humor. He threw a going-away party with family and friends, then a couple of weeks later celebrated his 98th birthday with another party. Through all the changes in life, he remained a loyal friend to those around him, chief among them being Carl Wetzstein and Bill Mendick among many others.

He served his country in the Army and was a true patriot. He took his civic duties seriously and always voted in elections, including the latest one. He was an accomplished CPA and a business owner, mentoring young professionals into seasoned entrepreneurs since the 1940s.

Bert was predeceased by his parents, Joseph Samuel (J.S.) and Celia Butler nee Shapiro, and his siblings Harold Butler, Marvin Butler and Betty McGorky, nee Butler. He is survived by and was the loving husband of his wife of 75 years, Sylvia nee Kravetz. He is also survived by his three children, their spouses, & grandchildren; Paula Butler; Bradley & Marnie Butler and their sons, Kyle, Matthew & Brent; and Ausher & Pesha Sarah Kofsky and their sons Levi, Hillel & Zedek.

A man goes into a restaurant and sits down. The waitress comes to his table and he asks her,

“Do you have frogs legs?”

She answers, “Yes.”

He exclaims, “Great! Hop into the kitchen and get me a chicken sandwich!”

Graveside Services will be held PRIVATELY on Sunday, November 22, 2020 at 2 PM in Britton Road Cemetery. Because of COVID, services will be streamed. CLICK HERE JUST BEFORE 2 PM on SUNDAY.
