Bertha “Birdie” Yavno Standard Cohen
October 6, 2020, 8 days shy of her 101st birthday. Predeceased by her husband, the love of her life, Saul Standard; parents, Alexander & Fannie Yavno; siblings, Anne Sorrell, Shirley, William & Jerome Yavno; grandson, Aaron Wallace. She is survived by her loving daughters, Bobby (Jerry) Zakalik, Sandy (Howard) Perlman, Amy (Scott) Wallace; grandchildren, Scott Zakalik, Sarah Zakalik (Kevin Kurtz), Dr. Michael Zakalik (Dr. Kelly Jones), Shayla Norton (Mike), Austin & Nikki Wallace; great-grandchildren, Adam & Noah Guarnera, Benjamin Zakalik, Eleanor Jones Zakalik; many nieces & nephews.
Birdie had a marvelous sense of humor and one-liners until the very end. She loved life, baking & cooking, watching old movies. Some of her favorite movie stars were Spencer Tracy & Shirley Temple. She liked people watching, never wanting to miss a trick or what someone was saying. She always wanted to please others before herself. But most of all she loved her entire family so very much and always wanted everyone to be happy. She was known for being so sweet and kind to all people and having such gorgeous red hair and peaches & cream complexion. She always talked about her “3 daughters". Her secret to living so long was to not let things bother her.
A Private Graveside Service will be held in the B’nai Israel Cemetery in Buffalo, New York on Friday, October 9, 2020 at 1 PM. BY INVITATION ONLY.
