Long story, but we know he was soo great at stories:) I was reminiscing with a friend from grammar school, Francis Parker 23 school. We reconnected and have had wonderful
Long phone conversations. He lives with his wife in Washington DC as a retired attorney, I, am a retired nurse now retired in the mountains of NE Tennessee. Lo and behold, he knew rabbi Kilimnick from temple as a boy and I, think I met rabbi Kilimnick at a dinner in the atrium of MCC where I went to college. The dinner was a kristalnach (spelling) remembrance. I ended up inviting the wonderful rabbi to my Holocaust genocide studies honor class to speak. That was in the 90’s and I’ve always had fond memories of what a delightful, wonderful story teller he was! As my friend Steven silverberg and I talked, I googled the rabbi and to our sadness, saw he had passed in 2020:( I hope his family finds comfort knowing two old grammar school chums from the 60’s, thought of your dear husband and father:)
Shalom ✡️

I remember Rabbi coming to my parents home when my father passed away. It was in December 1998.During the conversation Rabbi asked " why do you think I don't go to mall this time of year" ? After a few wrong answers he said with a twinkle in his eyes and a smile on his face, " because the children think I'm Santa Claus".
I will always remember how thoughtful and caring he was to my parents.
May his memory forever be a blessing.

To day that I am deeply saddened by Rabbi's passing is a gross understatement. To all his family: you have always meant so much to me as did your Dad, husband and grandfather. I shall cherish close to 50 years of sweet memories, slightly-off humor and tremendous sermons. Do know that you are perpetually in my thoughts at this difficult time, and always.

I have so many fond memories of Rabbi Shaya Kilimnick when we worked together at the Jewish Home as colleagues and friends for 20 years and for years far beyond my retirement.
He was so important the Jewish Senior Life for securing kashruth and maintaining a nurturing environment to Jews at any level and assuring that the religious needs of our non-Jewish residents were being met.
Shaya taught me so much and was always supportive. He had this wonderful ability to be true to his religious beliefs and responsibilities and deeply understand the complexities of operating a campus with 500 elderly residents.
The Jewish Home always had a 98% non- Jewish staff. Here the rabbi’s skills and sensitivity were unmatched. He taught, he corrected and always with the sensitivity of thank you for caring for our loved ones.
I once volunteered him to meet with the food service managers of 10 Jewish home- all non Jews. Subsequently, I received calls from each wanting to steal him away.
I will always remember this incident that we would regularly banter. Some 20 years ago I was rushed to the hospital with 30 minutes to live. The rabbi rushed to the hospital to be with my family and asked my son for my Hebrew name so he could offer a prayer. About a month later when I returned to work, he asked: Arnie what is your Hebrew name? His response when I told him “Well whomever I said the Prayer for, I hope he is doing well!”
Only wish my prayers for Nechie and Shaya had been as powerful.
To his family, Mary Jane and my deepest sympathy.
I will forever miss him!

We are shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of Rabbi Kilimnick. He embodied all that is righteous and beautiful about the Jewish people. He was loved by his congregation and all of the Rochester Jewish community and was an outstanding and respected representative of our community to the broader Rochester community. The combination of his personality, humor, oratory and menchlichkeit made him one in a million and may his memory be for a blessing. We extend our deepest condolences to the Kilimnick family. Judy and Larry Polsky, Jerusalem, Israel.

How eloquently he spoke at the double Decker Bat Mitzvah for my daughters, his beautiful blessings at the celebration of my parents 50th Anniversary celebration, his heartfelt words of comfort at my father's funeral service, just to mention a few of the moments Rabbi was a part of.

Dear Avi, Joseph & Family,
It's hard to find words to express the sorrow for the loss of your beloved father - a spiritual leader of so many. I have a lot of memories of leading services for our Holocaust survivors alongside Rabbi Shaya Kilimnick who had such a deep love and respect for that community as they did for him. And decades before that, I have memories of him sharing the stage with me in 12 Corners Klezmer Band performances. May you be comforted among the mourners of Zion & Jerusalem. Your family is in the hearts and prayers of so many in our community...
In Sympathy & Friendship,
Bonnie Abrams
