Aunt Norma, cousins Donna and Stuart –
It is difficult to summon the words to express the sorrow that I have in my heart to lose such a dearest uncle. I remember all the many family get-togethers we spent time at together – at which, BTW, he and my Aunt Norma many times either hosted or footed the bill for, or both!
But in addition to his generosity, he was a person that was very kind and full of positivity and warmth of spirit. Yes, always a positive and upbeat attitude. And he volunteered his time in support of causes he believed in and was a pillar of his community.
In essence, much of his life, as I know it, was in service to others – life’s highest calling.
I consider myself very lucky to have had the relationship with him that I did. His kind doesn’t come this way very often.
I and Barb stand by our Aunt Norma in a time where her beloved husband has passed away.
We likewise stand by Donna and Stuart during this time when their beloved father has passed away.
May the three of you be comforted by your own many great memories of my Uncle Walter and a much deserved outpouring of love on his behalf.
Glen and Barb

My family loved Walt Silverman and Carvel’s. We went to Carvel’s all our life, and I still think nobody made ice cream like Walt Silverman. I still miss it. We would see Walt at a lot at different places and I think we saw him at the Jewish home, War Veterans ,too. I do remember Donna and Stuart. Condolences to Norma and the family on your loss. Love and blessings to all of you. Sincerely Jayne (Kravetz). My father was Lenny Kravetz and my little sister was Gail Sarah Kravetz.

Donna,
I'm so sorry. You lost an amazing Dad. His Carvel store was our go to place for ice cream when I was a child growing up in Irondequoit. My father (Morris Herman) and your Dad were friends. They had Camp Crowder and the signal corps in common.

Dear Norma, Donna and Stuart,
I'm so very sad to hear of Walt's passing. He was an icon of the family. Always taking care of others before himself. My son Jack remembers him as his first "boss" when Walt gave him a job at Carvel at probably age 4! So many wonderful memories of Carvel, ping pong in the basement, and Sunday night Chinese dinners together. He was important to all of my family but very special to Morrie. Now they can be together again. Big hugs to all of you.
All our love.
Linda, Eric, Jack and Jenny

Uncle Walt was such a generous good man
How wonderful as a child to have your Aunt and Uncle own a Carvel store and every time you go visit he would just look at you and offer you a free ice cream
I remember him showing me in the back how you make ice cream I thought that was so cool
Uncle Walt was always so generous and giving and we always will love him and think of him with such wonderful memories
My heart breaks for Aunt Norma , Donna and Stuart

Much love to you and the family. Walt and Manny were the last of a generation. Incredible work ethic, self-made men, struggling through hard times, WWII, and anti-Semitism. I remember your dad making me special ice cream sundays with chocolate sprinkles when I was very young and we visited Rochester. We send you heartfelt condolences and loving thoughts.

Dear Norma, Donna and Stuart,
I'm so sorry to hear about Walter's passing. I know he lived a long life, and you've got wonderful memories to hold onto. I remember going to Carvel after our family went to the Red Wings games. We loved it there! Walter was always so nice to us and it was such a fun, family place. I also remember coming to your house in Brighton, which was right around the corner from ours. We'd talk and he would tell us stories- he loved when Donna and I would come over. Please accept my sincere condolences at this difficult time. May his memory be for a blessing.

What a treat it was for our family to go to 1754 Mt Hope Ave and later to 689 East Ridge Rd to enjoy delicious ice cream from Mr. Silverman and his family. It was a special honor to have the Silvermans live across the street from us in Brighton for a number of years. Walt was our Mr. Carvel and the love he put into his products was felt by many. My condolences to the family. May your wonderful memories carry you forward.

Dear Silverman family
Brad and I send our deepest condolences to all of you on your loss. I first met Walter in the late 1940's when I would ride my bicycle down St Paul Street to his first ice cream store and relish his version of soft ice cream. That experience came with a pleasant conversation and a delicious treat. Walter was a delight to spend a moment of time with , highlighted by his delicious ice cream.
Later in life our family would drive to his Carvel store on Ridge road, Walter was always there and took a moment to say hello and recall the store on St Paul Street , between AVE B and AVE. C . I would best describe him with a description , A MAN FOR ALL SEASONS.
May his memory be a blessing for his family and his wide circle of friends.
MORT KOLKO
