Obituary of Sara Kutner
Sara Kutner passed away on March 31, 2020 at the age of 95. Sara was a wonderful and caring person who was deeply loved and adored by her family. She was married almost 70 years to the late Herman Kutner. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Cypora and Uszer Teigman, her grandsons and their wives, Alan and Jen Teigman and David and Laura Teigman as well as four great-grandchildren, Ellie, Harris, Lily and Max.
Sara was born in Dabrowa Gornicza, Poland in 1924. Her parents were religious, and she had two older sisters. All of her nuclear family perished in the Holocaust as well as most of her extended family. But, Sara survived the Holocaust and lived a very good and simple life afterwards always cherishing the little things. Family was of the utmost importance to her. She was the best caregiver to her grandsons (who affectionately called her “Bubba”) that any family could ask for. There was never any shortage of food that she prepared for them, whether it was fresh fruit or steaks. When it came time to the holidays, she would make her gefilte fish and kreplach from scratch, including the dough! If anyone was sick in the family, Sara was practically a nurse when it came to caring for them.
When Sara came to the United States initially, she worked in a clothing factory where she learned English and taught herself to read. Sara settled in Rochester with her husband where they raised their daughter with kindness. Even with all that Sara went through in the Holocaust, she only had caring bones in her body and always had a loving smile. When presented with the opportunity to care for her grandkids, she jumped right into it and never looked back. This was her biggest accomplishment, helping teach her grandkids to be good “menschen”. When her grandkids grew older, she remained a big part of their lives, including walking down the aisle at both of their weddings.
Sara was fortunate to go almost everywhere with her daughter and son-in-law, often prompting questions from friends whether Sara lived with her daughter and son-in-law. With the help of her daughter and son-in-law, Sara often traveled within the United States for family occasions and later in life for vacations. But, it wasn’t really the vacations that made her happy, it was being with her family.
Sara was a great person in so many ways, and when we think of her, she is constantly helping make our family better.
The family would like to thank 5NE Support Staff at the Jewish Home as well as Sara's loving companion "Duvis".
Graveside Services were held privately.
The family will sit Shiva via Zoom on Sunday from 2 - 4 PM.
