Obituary of Anne M.C. Ginsburg

Webster - Anne Minnie (Chanciske) Ginsburg passed away recently near Rochester NY.

She was 93 years young. She resided in Webster NY most recently living for 2 years with her son.
She was predeceased by her husband Seymour Ginsburg, parents Haskell Chanchiske and Esther (Berman) Chanchiske of Syracuse NY and her sisters Lena Rapkin and Sara Wiseltier.

She is survived by her son Gary Ginsburg in Webster NY and her daughter Sharon Ginsburg in West Virginia and a grandson Aaron Cahill (Jaina) also in West Virginia as well as two great grandchildren Eli and Nolan. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was born in Elmira NY during 1926 but grew up and lived most of her life in Syracuse NY.
As a child in the 1930's, she witnessed President Franklin Roosevelt dedicate the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Syracuse NY. She also enjoyed playing as a child with her 2 sisters and 3 males cousins - Bernie, Harold, and Ed Berman in Elmira NY. She met her future husband at age 12 or 13 in Syracuse NY and they would later be married for 69 years until Seymour's death in 2016. She graduated with top academic honors from Central High School in Syracuse NY about the time of the D - Day military operation in June 1944 which liberated Europe. She graduated from nursing school in 1947 and also married Seymour Ginsburg her beloved husband that same year. At that time, she had to obtain permission to marry from the nursing school since she got married a short time before her wedding day. She coordinated her nursing school class reunion for over 40 years.

She raised 2 children in Syracuse NY but managed to balance family life with a highly successful professional career. She initially worked as a hospital nurse and later as a public health nurse in Onondaga County NY. During the 1960's she began working as a school nurse in the Syracuse NY city public school district system. This led to other opportunities and, she went back to school part-time and earned a bachelor's degree and a graduate degree from Syracuse University in the area of education.

She was known as "mom" by many of her classmates who were about half her age during the late 1960's.
She served many years as a 5th and 6th-grade elementary school teacher in Syracuse NY before retiring in the late 1980's. She had a positive impact on hundreds of patients as a nurse and well as hundreds of students as an educator.

She was a longtime member of Temple Adath Yeshurun in Syracuse NY. One of her most memorable experiences occurred in July and August 1968 when she visited extended family and cousins in Israel along with her mother and son. She relocated with her husband to Delray Beach, Florida in the early 1990's and lived in the sunshine state until 2016 when her husband passed away. She always enjoyed her annual visits to West Virginia and Webster NY as well as several extended family milestone events at Temple Sinai in Rochester NY. She served many years as a substitute school teacher in Florida and enjoyed dancing with Seymour as well as numerous cruise ship experiences.

She celebrated her 50th wedding anniversary in August 1997 with family and friends in Webster NY.  She always maintained a positive attitude and displayed much grace and dignity even as medical challenges emerged late in life.

The Ginsburg family very much appreciates the care and compassion provided during her final months by the staff at both the Heathwood Assisted Living facility and the Aaron Manor Skilled Nursing Center.
