Obituary of Gertrude "Trudy" Boyar
Gertrude (Trudy) (Oma) Boyar, 95, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2016. She survived the Holocaust and met the love of her life, Mike Boyar, to whom she was married for 36 years until his death in 1983. A devoted mother and grandmother, Trudy is survived by her daughter Anita (Greg) Langen, son Stuart (Vancy) Boyar, and grandsons Robert Langen, Michael Langen, Jeffrey Boyar and Philip Boyar.
She is predeceased by her sisters Erna Reich, Gella Ben Tovim, and Hannah Reichman. Also predeceased by her "sister" Esther Duke, with whom she survived WWII and remained in daily contact for over 70 years. Trudy is also survived by many devoted friends locally, at The Summit of Brighton, and around the world.
Trudy was famous for the "Oma snacks" she concocted for her grandsons, and loved a good book, sewing, playing Scrabble and bridge, and having a nice cup of tea. Trudy's concern for others until her last day is her legacy. She will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held at Temple B’rith Kodesh at 3 PM on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Interment, Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Summit of Brighton on Monday from 1-3 PM and at 19 Whitecliff Drive in Pittsford from 6 to 9 pm.
In her memory, please show someone how important they are to you. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to a hospice or charity.
