Obituary of Jewell Rothstein
March 6, 2016 at age 85. Predeceased by her husband, Jerry; brothers, Joseph & Philip G. Haymoff; sisters, Ruth Comisar, Ethel Haymoff & Jessie Cohen. Survived by her loving children, Lisa (Bill) Keeley & David (Laura Merritt) Rothstein; grandchildren, Michael & Ethan Keeley; many nieces & nephews; and Laura's children, Matt, Scott and Tyler.
Jewell was born in Rochester, New York and was the youngest of six children. She endured some devastating losses early in life which included losing her mother at the age of 9, and then her older brother Joe, who was killed on D-Day four years later. Yet her strength and positive attitude allowed her to continue on and find joy in her life. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother who always made her family her priority, and whose greatest joy was spending time with the grandsons and listening to all their funny stories. Jewell was employed at Social Security Administration for many years after her children were grown, and was a long time volunteer at Temple Beth David. She was a compassionate and generous person, who contributed to many, many charities and organizations. Jewell was an avid reader, and greatly enjoyed movies, music, theater and local festivals. She loved staying busy with her many friends and weekly games of Mahjong for decades!
