Dear Strasser family,
I wanted to pass along something to you all. Since I work at Highland Hospital I have had interactions with Dr Strasser. What I'll remember most about him was how polite he was when asking for help using the new online computer program. Every once in a while I'd hear, "can someone help me please? I have a question about how to do ___". Then after someone or I helped him he'd say, "thank you very much for helping me..."
There was one time I was in a patient's [pt] room talking about warfarin and when Dr Strasser came into the room to ask the pt how they were doing, I told the pt, "I'll let Dr Strasser talk to you and i'll be back after you are done." Dr Strasser said, "no, no I want to hear what you are teaching her about Coumadin, maybe i'll learn something myself."
On Tuesday morning's at Highland Hospital 'Grand Rounds' educational sessions occur from 0730 to 0830 and it was then when I learned of Dr Strasser's passing, the doctor who runs these Grand Rounds let the audience know of his death. Then he made mention of the chair where Dr Strasser sat when he attended the sessions. That doctor also asked for a moment of silence to remember Dr Alex Strasser. That moment of silence was such a nice tribute.
Know how much he was thought about by many people. I hope this provides some comfort to your family during this difficult time.
Take Care
Elaine [Pharmacist at Highland Hospital]

I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Doctor Strasser. He was my physician for 40-some years, seeing me through car accidents, hernia repairs, and common colds. Two things immediately come to mind with Dr. Strasser: early on, he said to me "just because medical science has a name for it doesn't mean we know anything about it". Secondly, I think I made his day, if not his month from his reaction, when I told him I was getting married after 18 years of being divorced, at the age of 60!
I will miss him.

Dr. Strasser was an amazing physician and person. His dedication to his field and preserving the integrity of medicine was incomparable. I have yet to encounter a stronger patient advocate. Thank you, Dr. Strasser, for your years of care to our family.
Our deepest sympathy to all of you,

I was saddened to learn of Dr. Strasser's passing into heaven. Now I know that heaven will be an even better place with Alex there to greet us. He was my doctor and friend from age 24 and I am now 68. He was the most wonderful loving and caring man I knew. His family was first but all his patients were right behind them. I am so sorry Helga and Stephan plus your family for this tremendous loss. The world will not be a better place without this wonderful man.
Be well and he will be your angel watching over all of you.
Love,
DonnadQRRL

Please accept my deepest condolences to Helga, Dr. Stephan Strasser and your family for your loss!
Dr. Strasser was my Doctor for 38 years and I wish he could have been longer!
Stephan, though we were at opposite ends of the political spectrum, when we talked politics, I respected his politics and he respected mine & we had a good time ribbing each other :-)
He was a competent, kind, caring wonderful person who always put us (the patients) 1st, regardless of what hospital adminstrators or insurance companies wanted him to do.
When I was hospitalized HE decided when it was time for me to be discharged, though insurance and the hospital wanted otherwise.
Well, then came the "Hospitalists" and he lost that control. What a shame for us and for him! I will miss Dr. Strasser!!!

Dear Strasser Family,
My sincerest condolences on the loss of your beloved husband, father and brother. Dr. Strasser was the finest man I have ever known and a wonderful doctor. He became my doctor in January of 1968 when I first was married and moved to Rochester from Pennsylvania as a very young women. I think one of his first patients, as he was a young doctor.
I can't tell you how saddened I am, as I will miss him, for he was not only my doctor, but I felt a friend. I can't even begin to tell you all he has helped me through. He was there always, never turning you away and at any time of night or day... week in and week out even on weekends. He was a caring, kind and thoughtful man. A very fine and smart doctor and Heaven is lucky to have him.
He talked of his family with a loving heart and displayed pictures always on his desk or in his office. His medical style was above others and exempliary for his common sense was right up there with his skills as a physician. Monroe County, Highland Hospital and the Rochester medical community lost a good one last week. He is not replaceable for sure. And I will miss him greatly.
I can't say enough about him, and I could write a book on how much he helped me navigate through life with physical and emotional issues. But will end with, again saying, Mrs. Strasser I am so very sorry for your loss and you are in my thoughts and prayers at this most difficult time.

Dear Mrs. Strasser and Family,
Dr. Strasser has been my Doctor my entire adult life. I felt confident that his medical advice and wisdom would see me through any health problem. He was always available when needed (including on a Sunday to meet my husband at his office when my dog bit him) and spent whatever time was needed without seeming to be busy. I will miss him and the care he gave. Please accept my deepest condolences and my thanks for sharing him with his patients all those years.

I'm 69 years old and have been going to Dr. Strasser since I was 19. My first job was with General Dynamics and Dr. Strasser was the company's in-house doctor. When General Dynamics closed its doors in Rochester, Dr. Strasser opened his own practice...I was so happy that I could get my health care from him outside of the worksite. Over the years, all of my family (brothers, sisters, parents, husband, aunt) became Dr. Strasser's patients as well. Of all the doctors I have seen through the years, Dr. Strasser will always be the one I admire above all others. In my opinion, he was the most caring, excellent diagnostician in the medical community. In all these years, with all my family members, there was never a single misdiagnosis. When my mom was dying after a long battle with ovarian cancer, my family was getting a lot of different information from various specialists and hospitalists. Dr. Strasser invited all of my brothers and sisters and my father to his office where he set aside as much time as we needed so that we could ask him ALL of our questions...there was no charge. When my aunt's husband (who was not a patient) got a severe migraine one Sunday, my uncle wanted to know if he could take some of my migraine medication. I told him absolutely not...we'd have no idea if it would be harmful to him. Since he was in so much pain, my aunt called Dr. Strasser. Dr. Strasser told her and her husband to meet him at his office on a Sunday afternoon so that he could see my uncle and give him the appropriate prescription. Whenever a family member was in the hospital, Dr. Strasser would never miss a single day of stopping up to check on us before he opened his office for the day. If we had an emergency trip to the hospital in the middle of the night, Dr. Strasser would stay on the phone with the hospital and direct all of the tests that he wanted done and stayed in constant communication with our family members. Those days, sadly, are behind us...health care now is a huge entity, with no communication between attending hospital physcians. There will never be another Dr. Strasser. Dr. Strasser, I can't believe I won't see you again...but thank you from the bottom of my heart for all you have done for me, my husband and my family through the years. We will miss you more than you will ever know. And Sheryl...you have been in all of our lives as well...what a remarkable team you made. Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Strasser and family.. Please know what an important part Dr. Strasser played in our lives. And PLEASE DON'T GIVE AWAY THAT TYPEWRITER!

We have known and been cared for by the doctor for many years; in fact, Janice's grandparents and mother even were patients of his as well. A very polite and caring man, we felt he was a good diagnostician; he certainly gave his all to his lifelong career. Our sincere condolences to the family.
