Obituary of Sophie Freedland
Sophie Levy Freedland passed away on May 18, 2013 at the age of 90. She brightened the lives of the many who knew her with her cheery disposition and sincere interest in them, including her friends and neighbors at the Wolk Manor where she lived recently. Sophie loved her life with her beloved husband Hymen, who passed in 1983. Together, they had a joyous and active social life with an extended community of relatives and friends.
Sophie worked for 25 years in the library at Monroe Community College, where she loved helping young students find the resources they needed. She was full of compassion for others and worked as a monitor on a school bus for mentally handicapped youths at one point.
Sophie was one of eight children from a very close family. She was preceded in death by sisters Jean Gan and Lena and Sarah Levy, brother Harry Levy and brother-in-law Morris Cymber. She leaves behind a brother Meyer Levy (Sandy) and sisters Mary Cymber and Stella Aroesty (Solomon) and brother-in-law Harry Gan (Adele). Sophie is also survived by her sons Terry (Linda) of Delmar, NY, and Neil (Sarina) of Atlanta, Georgia, and three grandchildren whom she adored Benjamin, Hallie, and Robert Freedland. She is also survived by 12 loving nieces and nephews and their families.
The funeral will be held at the Britton Road Cemetery on Tuesday, May 21, at 11 AM. (Click for a Map to the Cemetery)
Family and friends will be received at the Wolk Manor (4000 Summit Circle Drive Click for a Map) on Tuesday 2-4 PM.
