Sidney Albert Aroesty
Died peacefully on June 7, 2014, surrounded by his loved ones after a courageous and graceful fight with pancreatic cancer, at the age of 67. Sid is survived by his loving wife, Carol; two sons, Jason (Flavia) & Michael (Lindsay); his three grandchildren, Isabella, Gabriel & Jacoby, who were the treasures of his life; sister, Veda (Lars Rosenquist) Aroesty; & his nieces.
Sid grew up in Rochester, NY and graduated from East High School in 1964. He joined the US Air Force in 1967 where he was the Hospital Laboratory Director at Kinchloe AFB in Michigan and was honorably discharged in 1971.
Sid went on to work as Lab Supervisor at the University of Rochester (Strong) & later Highland Hospital. In 1978, Sid joined Diagnostic Products Corporation, headquartered in Los Angeles, where he and his family relocated until 1992.
An alumnus of the University of Rochester, Sid later served on the University Trustee's Council and was awarded the James S. Armstrong Alumni Service Award in recognition of "Outstanding and extraordinary service, loyalty and commitment" in 1997.
Sid lived a remarkable and impactful life. He once said "For a guy who had rarely ventured outside of the confines of Western New York, I have travelled enough to fill several passports, taking along with me impressions and perspectives of people and places I never dreamed I would have."
Sid leaves behind a family who is proud and inspired by his lifelong values, achievements and endless love. He will be missed, but never forgotten by his family and friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at 11 AM at White Haven Memorial Park. Friends are asked to gather at the main entrance. Click here for directions to the cemetery.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 11 AM in the Interfaith Chapel of the University of Rochester with a reception to follow. There will be shuttle service from the U of R parking lot at 300 E. River Road to the chapel & back. Click here for directions to the shuttle parking lot .
