Sylvia Commins
Life-long resident of Rochester, passed away on January 24, 2015, two months shy of her 100th birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Saul Commins, a surgeon at Genesee Hospital, beloved for his sense of humor and extraordinary patient care. Mrs. Commins is survived by her 3 children, Susan, Stephen and Nancy, 6 grandchildren, Nicole, Katherine, Andrew, Ashley, Elizabeth and Alex, and 5 great grandchildren, Nora, Sylvie, Joseph, Wanda and Pao.
Sylvia was devoted to the community of Rochester, focusing much of her attention on Geva Theater--first as a founding member, then as trustee. She was an officer in the Genesee Hospital Medical Auxiliary, a member of the Women’s Committee of Brandeis University, and a volunteer for Hadassah at Temple Beth El and at the Memorial Art Gallery. Sylvia and Saul were active members of Irondequoit Country Club and were especially known for hosting parties for their wide circle of friends, who included local artists and musicians.
Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2015 at 2:30 PM in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends are asked to meet at the main gate. Click here for directions to the cemetery.
