Obituary of Herman Kutner

A great man passed away on August 6, 2014. Survived by his wife, Sara, of 68 years, his daughter and son-in-law, Cypora and Uszer Teigman, his grandchildren and their wives, Alan, David, Jen and Laura Teigman and a great-granddaughter, Ellie. Herman was a man who enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, including most importantly spending time with his family. It was not uncommon for Herman to sit at a dinner table with his family and smile and “kvell” (glow with pride in Yiddish) simply because he was around his family. Herman was predeceased by the majority of his family in the Holocaust, including his parents and two of his three brothers. As a Holocaust survivor, Herman spoke on many occasions to school groups who wanted an opportunity to hear a firsthand experience about the Holocaust. Herman also fought in the Israeli Army for Israel's independence, worked for 20 years in the Kosher Deli at Park Edge Supermarket and then at Eastman Kodak Company. Herman taught his family a great deal. He was incredibly kind and generous and rarely would speak negatively about anything. He was appreciative of everything that he had in life and expressed love to everyone in all of his interactions. Known in the family for, among many other things, his aphorisms, such as “life is life”, “make the best”, “marriage is a blind business”, “the best of life is with your wife” and“no complaints”, Herman’s family will continue to treasure these sayings and the time that was spent with him.
