To Debbie and Abe: Sincere condolences on behalf of my parents and myself. I have many memories of our years growing up together in St. Paul, spending time at your home & your Prior Lk. cabin, with your dad helping us fish for crappies and your mom taking us water-skiing. Your dad lived a long and very productive life; cherish all your special memories of him -and your mom. Know that friends wish you well, despite never seeing or hearing from you for so many years after our childhood has passed! My parents wanted me to be sure to express sympathies to you as well. They do not e-mail!
Hope your family is well. Joy

Debbie: I am very sorry to hear about "Uncle Sidney's" passing. I've often thought about your family and our long time connection. I also have fond memories of Prior Lake, as well as Merrywood, Mt. Zion, and the many social gatherings we shared with Highland Park families. A favorite memory of your dad is from a party at our house, where he was listening to PDQ Bach for the first time. He was laughing so hard he was crying - which made us all laugh even more. My best to you and your family. Jan

I was saddened to hear of your father's passing. I spent some lovely times with him in Lilydale. I knew your Dad was smart, fun, adventurous---but until I read his obituary, I didn't realize he was brilliant! Imagine being granted a patent this year! We went to movies, dinner at the Lexington, to a micro-brewery to sample beer, when I told him I was going to the Swedish Institute and my favorite on the menu was gravlax--he explained to me how it got its name and the old fashioned process used to make it. He always had an interesting addition, clever comment or anecdote ready for every occasion. I got engaged, left Lilydale and although we shared a few phone calls we lost track of one another. But I have thought of him often and his wonderful gentle nature. As a matter of extreme interest to me---I was thinking of Sid
only two days before I read the notice of his death. I hope he heard my pleasant thoughts and memories of him. I hope you know you were blessed to have him for 97 wonderful years--I cherish my scant two years knowing him.

Sidney was my mentor and friend. We met while I was waitressing at the Moose in Lilydale, MN. He came in often for dinner after his dear wife died, and we quickly became friends. I was working on my BA in Psychology at the time, and Sidney took it upon himself to become my mentor as I was planning to pursue a PhD in Neuroscience. We often went to dinner, taking turns driving and buying dinner. I was relieved, I admit, when I became the sole driver of our dinner excursions. We would talk for hours about science, philosophy, Sidney's dissertation work and my dissertation work. I was delighted that I got to personally hear his stories of his work in the war, and a friend of mine that joined us once for dinner is still convinced that Sidney worked on a secret project during the war. I missed Sidney when he moved out East, but I knew that it was best for him to be with his family, close to those who dearly loved him. He spoke proudly of his granddaughter, daughter, and son-in-law, so much so that I felt as if I knew you personally. I do hope I will have the opportunity to meet you all one day. I thought of Sidney today with a saddened heart, before I heard the news, and realized that his time had come. All who had the pleasure to know him are truly blessed by his friendship and brilliance.

Deb~ One of my fondest memories of your dad was the summer of 1986 at Prior Lake. It was extremely hot; our kids were still not swimmers and complained bitterly about wearing their itchy life vests in the water. Your dad, who did not like to actually get IN the lake, took it upon himself to teach the boys to swim. He spent an entire afternoon with them, and by the end they were both swimming like fish. Your dad never complained, and I never saw him get back in the lake again! He was a teacher, a friend, and a mensch all in that one afternoon. He will be missed.

Sid was a technology giant and legend at Univac. He was both highly respected and feared in the marketplace because of his leadership and many technical contributions. His name is synonymous with Univac's success!

Dear Deb, Lauren & Abe, It is with great sadness that I learned of your father and grandfather's passing. Although I had not seen him in many years, he will always hold a very special place in my heart. When John and I first started dating and later married, he and your mother welcomed me into the fold with open arms. Whenever I asked a question , Sid never talked down to me, never said "you would'nt understand" but instead tried to explain so that I would understand. He was a great man. Full of love and compassion. My thought are with you. Love, Beth
