Florence Salitan
December 16, 2015. Predeceased by her husband of 64 years, Herman J.; daughter, Sharon Wexler; parents, Charles & Ida Finer; sisters, Anne Finer- Slater & Ethel Finer; brother, Jacob C. Finer. Survived by her daughter, Jane (Bill) Salitan Ginsburgh; son-in-law, Michael J. Wexler; grandchildren, Jeffrey Wexler, Kevin (Bari) Wexler, Sara (Aaron) Salitan-Thiell, Michael (Kara) Hanft, Caren (Andrew) Kotlow; great grandchildren, Samantha, Ariella, Abraham, Zared, Andrew, Jillian, Chava, Micah, Sophia & Alexis; several nieces & nephews.
Florence worked in Public Relations for the Russian War Relief during WW II in San Francisco, CA. She dedicated herself for 35 years volunteering for the Jewish Brail Institute, where she recorded text books for U of R students who were blind. In Florida, she was a literacy volunteer, working with new Americans learning & reading English. She was an active member of Temple Beth El for 70 years, including its sisterhood. She & Herman attended services every Saturday, always sitting in the same seats. She was also editor of the Rochester Hadassah Cookbook. But her most important job was homemaker for her husband, children & grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at 1 PM in the Sanctuary of Temple Beth El (139 Winton Rd. S.). Click here for directions to the temple. Interment, Mt. Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-9 PM on Sunday at the Summit at Brighton and will continue Monday from 7-9 PM at 19 Whitley Ct. in Pittsford (off Pittsford-Henrietta T.L.R.). Click here for directions to the house of mourning.
