Dear Sy and Family,
I just learned the sad news of Karen's passing and wanted to extend my condolences to you and your beautiful family.
Karen and I shared many wonderful experiences during the years I lived in Rochester. First, getting to know her at the store at 12 Corners in the early years was always a pleasure in shopping. Later we crossed paths as volunteers at the JCC, Jewish Federation, and at the Jewish Home. Her genuine warmth, embracing personality and intelligence made it easy to be friends with Karen. I think of her with great fondness and extend my deepest sympathy to her entire family at such a sad time.
Sincerely,
Marcia Falk

I am so sorry for your loss. My mind fills with memories of walking to Pantastic to buy my mother yet another kitchen gadget as a gift and of my Chavura-only bat mitzvah in your beautiful home. Karen always treated me as a full person, even though I was in fact such a little kid at the time. May your memories bring you comfort. Karen was a truly remarkable woman with a beautiful perspective. I enjoyed my visits with her so very much when she came into the office or when we saw each other in the community. Sy and Karen were a power team and couple. Karen and Sy were like one fluid word and when you heard their names you thought " exceptional people" -we are all in the best hands! Karen was SO proud of her family with every reason to be. May you all be comforted and have strength by the most special memories

I am saddened to learn of Karen's passing.
It was impossible not to feel like you were anything other than family in her presence. It was my good fortune to have met Karen the first week Pan - Tastic opened. Her's was singularly unique store ,which to date remains an unparalleled standout.
It was because of her authentically warm, welcoming and embracing demeanor , I was instantaneously transformed into a Pan-tastic Loyal !
An truly exceptional woman. Her passing will leave a void in the heart of many.
*Thank you Karen, for all your many gifts.

My deepest condolences to Sy, Bruce and Debbie. Karen's smiling face and jovial presence comforted me, supported me and followed me from Temple Beth El, to Brighton High to NYC and back to Rochester. She and Sy were the pillars of an unbelievable support system to me and my family when I first came out, and were pioneers at a time when LGBT awareness within the Jewish community (and certainly at Temple Beth El) were nil. Karen never shirked from adversity, and was a brave and vocal voice against hatred and intolerance.
I am happy that she was able to share in my recent simcha, and join me and my (now) husband last summer at our engagement party at Bristol. But the world has lost a compassionate, caring and powerful force. I know that her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will carry on her legacy.
May her memory be as a blessing.
