Obituary of Sara Rosen

Died March 10, 2014. Burial took place on Mt. of Olives in Jerusalem, Israel on March 12. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Predeceased by her husband, Joseph David Rosen. Born in Crackow, Poland on February 15, 1925. Sara was a survivor of the Holocaust. Her sister, Rachel Landerer, perished in Auschwitz on Yom Kippur Day, 1942. After World War II ended (in 1945) Sara arrived in Tel Aviv before the establishment of the State of Israel. She married Joe Rosen in 1949 in Israel. They started their family there with the birth of their sons Yitzchak and Mickey. In 1956, they emigrated to the USA. Their family grew with the birth of their daughter Rachel. Sara and Joe lived in NYC where they raised their family. Joe and Sara valued family and their Jewish traditions above all else. Sara authored three published books about Jewish life in pre-war Poland and the Holocaust. Sara left a legacy: a strength of spirit, sense of humor and a lifelong love of learning that will be cherished by all. Sara is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Yitzchak, (Ruth), Gene & Miriam, Mickey (Rabbi Karen Fox), Avi and Benjy (Julie Dawson), Rachel (Ron Wexler), Itiya (Pinney), Zoe & Ella Wolman, Naftali (Anna) and Joe Hanau, Jesse Eliis-Wexler, Ahuva Hanau and Shira Hanau. Memorial contributions in her memory may be directed to Jewish Senior Life or Congregation Beth Sholom. Visitation at 15 Chadbourne Road Sunday evening through Tuesday evening.
