Obituary of Jacob N. Kluger
An accomplished professional engineer and active volunteer in the community, died on October 11 from complications due to Parkinson`s Disease. He was 84.
Jacob was a graduate of the Brooklyn Technical High School. The first in his family to attend university, Jacob won a full scholarship to the Cooper Union and graduated with an engineering degree. He later earned a Masters of Science in Applied Mathematics from the University of Rochester.
Jacob settled with his family in Rochester in 1964 and worked many years for the Xerox Corporation as a senior engineer in their product development organization. Jacob`s work included mathematical modeling of complex mechanical processes. An inventor, he held ten patents.
Always interested in moving objects, from bicycles to train locomotives, in many ways he was ahead of his time in practicing sustainable transportation, bicycling to his office in all seasons.
Jacob was an active member of the Congregation Beth Shalom community. He and his family were previously members of Temple Beth El. He served as a solicitor for the Jewish Community Federation, as a member of his synagogues` Men`s Clubs, as a Jewish Family Services volunteer to help the elderly, and in other roles. He continued his Jewish learning throughout his life.
Jacob was born in the Bronx on August 27, 1932 to his parents, Leo and Gertrud, who were immigrants from Galicia. Jacob`s older brothers were Roland and Norman. He is survived by Lois, his loving wife of 62 years, his sister Ingrid Elliot, and by his children: Larry (Josie), Levi (Karin), Avram (Dana), and Daniel (Beth). He will also be missed by his 16 grandchildren, his two great-grandchildren and his many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was greatly loved.
He was devoted to his family and to his Jewish Faith.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 1:00 PM.
