I first met Sid (and Doris) shortly after I married Cathy and was welcomed into the Groudine clan. I would venture to say that anyone who knew Sid, even on a casual basis, found him to be immediately likeable and, for most, downright lovable. I got to see and spend time with Sid numerous times over the past two and a half decades, but I can say it was never enough and I know I will always miss his presence.
For Sid it was a two-way street…he gave his affection as well as he got—something everyone knew about him. But above all was his immense pride in his grandchildren and their love for “Poppa”. It is good that they are all old enough to carry the priceless memories the rest of their life—for so long as they remember, Sid will not be gone.
The Big Sleep is upon him and the eons will pass in an instant and perhaps in some far distant future one or two “Sid-atoms” will find their way into another sentient, loving being. The thought is indeed seductive.
