Obituary of Eli Lee Garelick

Eli L. "Lee" Garelick Rush, NY: December 5, 2008, peacefully surrounded by his family at home after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, NY and a resident of the Rochester area since age 5. Lee attended Monroe High School, the U of R and graduated from RIT, where the co-op program made it financially possible to complete his education. An Electronic Engineer, Lee worked at the U of R's Cyclotron, and then for several decades in the Process Control Industry including Taylor Instruments, Transmation (where he was one of 4 original employees), and Rochester Instruments Systems. In 1979, he and James Wurtz founded Altek Industries Corporation, where he served as president which eventually employed 50 people in Henrietta before its sale. He then served on the board of Transcat Corporation, retiring earlier this year. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 1/2 years, Sharon (Alter); 3 children, Paul (Deborah), Jared (Ellen), and Laurel (Martin) Schneiderman; 6 grandchildren, Tegan (Dave), Kiri, Dan, Stephanie, Hersh and Hannah; a brother, Albert; brother-in-law, Colin (Hilde); many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Lee was an active member and technologically indispensable participant in activities at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at RIT and was an active member of Temple Beth Am, where he was a charter member and former President. He was also a life member of the ISA and IEEE, as well as a former officer of Measurement Control Apparatus Association (MCAA). Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at 11 AM at Brighton Memorial Chapel Inc. (3325 Winton Road South). Map to the funeral home. Interment, Britton Road Cemetery. Following the Funeral a period of mourning will be observed at 12 Birchstone Hill Rd., Rush, Sunday 7-9 PM, Monday & Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 PM. Map to the house of mourning.
