Obituary of Ilse Stern

In loving memory of Ilse Schoenfeld Stern 1928-2016 Passed away on December 18, 2016, at the age of 88. Predeceased by her husband, G. Fred Stern. Survived by her three loving daughters, Helen G. Nissani, K. Sue Geier, and Wendy S. Stein; son-in –laws, Jim Anderson and Freeman Stein; grandchildren, Eric Nissani, Ethan Nissani, Naomi Geier, Mikail Stein and Gabriel Stein; step-grandchildren, Jesse Anderson and Rebecca Anderson and many dear friends. Ilse was born in Landau, Germany and was a Holocaust survivor. At the age of eight she emigrated to the United States with her parents. She met her husband of fifty-five years in Brooklyn, NY and together they raised their family in Woodstock NY. When her youngest daughter entered first grade, Ilse went back to school and received her BS in Education. Ilse was a beloved teacher for twenty years at the Woodstock Elementary School. In retirement, she volunteered as an ELL (English Language Learner) tutor for several years. Ilse was a coloratura soprano and shared her love of music with her family. The family will sit Shiva from 4-7 PM on Monday, December 19, 2016, at The Summit at Brighton (2000 Summit Circle Drive). In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to a literacy or musical organization of your choice.
