Obituary of Glenna B. Spindelman
Passed away on May 9, 2018 at the age of 86. She had 3 great loves-- her husband Norman, classical music up to Rachmaninoff, and the State of Israel. She thought her children and her grandchildren were marvelous people and took great pleasure in their company and accomplishments.
Born in the Bronx in 1932, she retained a lifelong pride in her New York origins. She spent two beautiful summers studying music at Interlochen, and continued her piano studies at the University of Michigan, graduating in 1953. Upon her marriage to Norman Spindelman in 1954, she relocated to Rochester, NY, cultivating a deep connection with her adopted city. She volunteered in a variety of capacities, for the RPO, Highland Hospital, and Hadassah, and reading for WXXI's Reach Out Radio. Glenna appreciated all things beautiful, with a particular fondness for antique silver. This interest created her business "Glenna's Collection," and she worked shows as an antique dealer for many years. She was a lifelong Zionist and visited Israel many times. In addition to Israel she enjoyed trips to other parts of the world, most recently seeing Paris for the first time, where she fit right in, meeting Parisian grace and elegance with her own.
She was predeceased by her husband, Norman Spindelman. She is survived by her four children, Claudia Blumenstock, Margot Spindelman (Mark), Erica Spindelman (Michael) and Evan Spindelman (Monique); 7 grandchildren; and her brother Daniel Burkitt (Judy).
