I worked for/with Ellie about a thousand years ago (1978) as a resident advisor in the NTID dorm. I saw her quite frequently in the quad around 3 AM after someone would pull the fire alarm in the tower dorm. It was quite a light show, but a huge aggravation to the residents.
I don’t think I ever had a conversation with Ellie where she didn’t sign everything she said – and I’m hearing.
Ellie’s sensitivity and understanding of interpersonal relationships was unmatched. She gave totally of herself.
After many, many years without communicating, Ellie and I recently chatted on Facebook. She told me of her plight. I’m grateful we had a last chance to share.
I extend condolences to her family and friends. Peace, Ellie.

My heart goes out to Ellie's community of close friends and family. I am grateful that Ellie and I reconnected this past summer over dinner when we met by chance at a conference in Louisville. I hadn't seen her since she had been my mentor as a young student development intern at NTID in 1995. It felt like just yesterday as she still encouraged me on and spoke about life journeys. Her contributions will be missed but not forgotten.

Dear Rosenfield Family: I met Ellie when I attended NTID in 1978. She was a strong woman with a strong presence about her. The deaf community may have lost a wonderful spirit but her spirit will live through the lives she touched. She will be greatly missed....Willie S. (NY)

Dear Rosenfield Family,
When beggars die there are no comets seen; the Heavens themselves set forth ablaze at the death of a princess. I just heard of Ellie's passage only yesterday, my thought for NTID has never been the same without the most inspiring lady. She was always there for everyone be it academic; SVP; EYF; Career fair; Counseling, and whatever you call it. My heart goes to her family. Here goes a real Leader, when comes another?

I met Ellie only recently at an American Society for Deaf Children board meeting, no doubt just one of a number of organizations she helped sustain and nurture. Her enthusiasm and positive outlook struck me instantly, and I am just as stricken by her loss. Her memory is a perpetual model for compassion and leadership

To Dr. Rosenfield's family,
I was saddened to hear of Ellie's passing. She was my first professor when i entered NTID in 2003, and she always had this smile whenever she walked around NTID. She even helped me find a internship last year in my hometown. Dr. Rosenfield will be deeply missed. She had a great impact on my success at NTID. She even helped me get through my troubles as a senator for NTID. I'm grateful for Dr. Rosenfield's persistence with students to make sure they succeed. May God Bless you.

I only knew Ellie for a few short years, but those years made a difference in my life. Ellie was a true professional and one who genuinely cared about those who she served and worked with. Words cannot express how she will be missed in the RIT/NTID community and how much I will miss her as a friend and colleague. May our memories of her and the good work she did help comfort us now as we grieve and help us carry on a long legacy of kindness in her name.

I was saddened to hear of Ellie's death, too. She was a favorite supervisor of mine, and good friend, fellow dog-lover, inspiring educator; a passionate and compassionate person. She was a fighter, I know, and I am so disappointed she finally had to lose the war of life, but she will always win in the life of our memories, mine included.

Dear Rosenfield family and Julie,
Ellie arrived at NTID/RIT the same fall I was a freshman. Ellie made friends immediately and was a force to be reckoned with. There are literally thousands of deaf, hard of hearing and hearing adults around the world who were blessed to know Ellie and have her influence in their lives. May your memories of Ellie bring you much comfort now and always.
