Obituary of Paul Hutner

Paul Hutner Our loving husband, father, brother, and friend passed away surrounded by his family on June 30, 2014 at 68 years old. Paul was born on the north side of Chicago in 1946 to the late Alex and Shirley (Smith) Hutner. He is survived by his older brother, Mark (Merle) Hutner; his nephew, Steven (Allison); his niece, Sharon; and Rosiwitha (Uli) Peteler, a foreign exchange student who became like a third daughter to Paul. Just prior to graduating from Southern Illinois University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in engineering, he married Carol (Dickson) Hutner in Carbondale, Illinois. Paul and Carol, along with their two children, Shirley and Susan, lived in several different states, including Minnesota, New Jersey, and Ohio, before settling near Rochester, New York for the past 24 years. In addition to a successful engineering career in a variety of industries, he was one of the early members of the American Society for Quality. He held several offices in the society, including Chair of the Rochester, New York Section; Chair of the Certification Committee of the Minnesota Section; and Treasurer of the St. Charles, Illinois Section. Paul loved riding large motor scooters, baking with his family, animals of all kinds (especially his cat), and dark chocolate. His favorite memories included family trips to Disneyland and the American West, he and his brother’s engineering feats as children, working on cars, and visiting with friends he met everywhere.
