Obituary of Albert G. Sheinfeld
Brighton: November 8, 2016. Born in Cambridge, MA. Pre-deceased by his parents, Sidney J and Ida Gordon, and brothers Leonard and Ralph. He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Gertrude ("Trudy"), loving children, Dr. Sherri Sheinfeld Gorin (Brian Gorin), and Stephen (Jane Fried) Sheinfeld, grandchildren, Aaron (Michal) Gorin, Rabbi Evan Moshe (Chana) Gorin, Michael, David, Jonathan, and Andrew Sheinfeld, dear great-grandchildren, Akiva, Temima, Shira, Talia, Esther, and Abraham, sister-in-law, Gloria (Ernest) Beren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Al began college early; a gifted student, he also graduated early from Penn State U, and pursued veterinary studies at Brandeis U (until the program ended), as well as graduate studies at U of Mass and Rutgers U. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Mid-Pacific Campaign including Okinawa and Nagoya. He was a successful Rochester real estate broker for more than 30 years.
He held leadership positions in a number of religious and community organizations, including Temple Beth El, B'nai B'rith, and as Grand Chancellor (and 50-year member) of the Jay Lodge Knights of Pythias. He volunteered at local hospitals and was an enthusiastic fund raiser for several community organizations, particularly those devoted to land conservation and animal welfare. He was gregarious and enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM Friday, November 11, 2016 in the Rabbi Abraham Solomon Chapel at Temple Beth El, 139 Winton Road S. Internment, Britton Road Cemetery.
The family will sit Shiva at the Summit at Brighton on Friday 2-4 PM, Saturday 7-9 PM, and Sunday 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Shiva will continue 2-4 PM until Wednesday.
