I am shocked and saddened by the parting of Susie, one of the most accomplished, influential individuals I have ever known. Her published materials with the Children's Rights Council and other sources were especially influential in providing balance and good sense in the domestic violence field, where inaccurate data often prevails.
She provided loving guidance towards many individuals, and her family, friends, and colleagues will sorely miss her, including me.

Dear Horwitz Family,
Susan was a pivotal person in my life, during my transition into adulthood, and I've many warm memories of her. She was just beginning her professional career at the time, transitioning from a school counselor to a therapist. Although I've not seen her in many years, I've no doubt that she lived a rich and purposeful life. My deepest condolences for your loss.

Susan was so influential in my decision to train and become a marriage and family therapist back in 1985. In my time in the program at U of R, she was always so warm, caring and extremely talented. Although since then our paths crossed only occasionally, I always remembered her with great fondness and warmth, and I know that she will be truly missed. She was a blessing to so many. My condolences to you, her family.

Susan was our therapist for over a year. With gentle guidance, laughter, tears and faith in our ability as adults to heal the wounds life had dealt to us, she walked a journey of healing with us. What a special woman! We are in shock at her sudden passing... May the Lord bless her and keep her. May the Lord make his face to shine upon her. May the Lord be gracious unto her and give Susan peace. Our deepest sympathies to her husband and children! You are in our prayers.

Susan provided therapy for me and for my family during a very difficult time period in our lives. Not only was Susan compassionate, she was also brilliant. She made such an impression on me that I kept in touch with her every now and again over the years; and, in the past year, I came to her again to seek advice on how I could be of service to a troubled friend. Indeed, Susan was a role model.

Dear Horwitz Family,
My sincere condolences on your loss. I lived in Concord Square when your family live in Windsor Square. I remember the Becca and Jason being very young. I was a teenager when I knew your family. My mother Elke Maney passed from a brain tumor in May of 2000, so I know the challenges you have been through as a family. May you find comfort in each other. Suzi had left a positive impression on me as a teenager. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Horwitz Family,
I worked with Susan for 10 years as the Intake Coordinator for the clinic. I will always remember her true compassion for her patients and their families. She took the new trainees under her wing and watched them blossom into incredible therapists. I moved to California last year, but just saw her in August when I was visiting family. It was in between patients and we talked about meeting for lunch in November during my next visit. I'm so glad we even had the 15 minutes to catch up. She was an amazing woman and will be missed deeply. My thouhts and prayers go out to both your family and her clinic family.

My wife and I were shocked and truly saddened by Suzie's death. As one of my earliest students in her Master's degree program at SUNY Brockport, I knew she was destined for great things. She had a wonderful combination of assertiveness and compassion. Her first venture into professional counseling was as a colleague with me. I eventually lost her to the U. of R. but my loss was their great gain. We were friends at Windsor Square, we chose you, Dick, as our attorney, and our daughters, Shari and Lori, were good friends with Becca. Over the years, I learned as much from Suzie as she may have ever learned from me. We have deeply valued the friendship of our families, even through the distance of the past few years. The world has lost a truly remarkable woman!

My favorite memory sticks with me and is somting I want to leave you with a I express my sincere sorrow at her passing. I remember more than once as your guests sat at your dning table you coming into the kitchen and saying "you did it again Suzy, another wonderfl meal". Dick - My father and his sister both died from brain tumors. It is a blessing for her and for you that you did not have to watch that beautiful woman waste away and possibly deal with personality changes. She is and always will be just as you remember her a couple of weeks ago. Take that as a treasure on days when you miss her terribly. And know that when all of the business of the funeral have passed and the days stretch into months, your old pals from Windsor Square will think of all of you and hope you are doing OK. I suggest a rest at Villa Kessler in Bradenton when you are up to it. Someone has to keep Marilyn from bothering Larry when he is working.
