Obituary of Devara Feir

Devara "Dee" Feir (Goldstein) Passed away on February 9, 2015 at age 92. Born in Rochester to Oscar & Mary Goldstein; she is predeceased by husbands, Martin Wolkov, Alfred Matter & Harvey Feir. She is survived by her loving children, Ellen (Charles) Bernitt & Jay (Patsy Lea) Wolkov; grandchildren, Devan (Aubrey Hirsch) Goldstein, Jessica Kamens, Seth (Tia) Wolkov & Kelsey (Brock) Griffith; great grandchildren, Cal, Lila, Weston, Remy & Abram; step-daughter, Ellen Feir; the Matter Family; cousin, Jules (Doris) Cohen; nephew, Larry (Nancy) Kaplan and the rest of the Kaplan family. The family wishes to thank the 7th Floor Palliative Care Unit & the staff at Wolk Manor for their loving care of "Dee". A short biography of Dee: Devara Rose Goldstein, “Dee,” was born in Rochester, NY to Oscar and Mary Goldstein in 1922. She was preceded by her sister Jeanne Betty (later Kaplan) and followed by her brother Robert (Buddy). She spent time jumping off the bridge over the canal, being with aunts and uncles, working in Uncle Jack Abramson’s jewelery store, learning the “rules” from her mother, riding to work with her father, becoming a skilled secretary and administrative assistant, and a USO gal, where she met Marty Wolkov, soon to be her husband. In 1944 Dee married Moses Martin (Marty) Wolkov, in Rochester, NY at the age of 22 and moved to Philadelphia, where she had two children, Jay and Ellen, raised her family, worked “The Store” (Wolkov Furs) at 59th and Chestnut St. with Marty, went to “The Club” in the summers. Marty passed away in 1968. In 1970 Dee married Al Matter in Philadelphia, PA at the age of 48. Her family grew to include Howard (and Ellen) and Karen and her family. After moving to Steubenville, Ohio, she and Al finally landed in Pembroke Pines, FL. Enjoying friends, and the perpetual sun, they travelled to Spain, and Russia, and had a nice home on the “lake. Dee lost her husband Al in 1992. In 1997 Dee married Harvey Feir in Pembroke Pines, FL and lived at Colony Point, at the age of 74. Her family expanded again, with two more children, Ellen (and Stephen) and Marvin (and Kathy), and more people to love. They spent 15 wonderful years together before Harvey died in 2012. In 2013, Dee returned “home” to Rochester, NY, where she lived near her daughter Ellen and her husband Charlie, enjoyed a rich and expanded family life, and appreciated living at Wolk Manor among her extraordinary caregivers and new friends. She has enjoyed care and visits by her son Jay and his spouse Patsy, who live in Colorado. What characterized Dee’s life was her grand heart, her ability to embrace each new situation in her life, and to love all her family. Dee’s extended family of husbands, children, wives, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, cousins, nieces & nephews; in-laws, steps, were loved and loving. She left a proud legacy of grace and kindness. Dee will be missed. Graveside Services will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at 11 AM in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
