Obituary of Seymour Fogel

Seymour Fogel Passed away on August 31, 2015. He is survived by his wife, Silvani; daughters, Linda (Robert) Barron & Deborah; sons, Robert (Lisa) & David (Meade); grandchildren, Alexandra, Jacob, Zachary, Adam, Jordan, Grace, Lucy, Lillian & Caroline. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan, and his brother, Harold. Born in Rochester in 1929, Seymour graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in 1947 & the University of Rochester in 1951. He spent his early career in junior accounting positions with American Sugar Refining Company & Haskins and Sells, CPA, then joined The Lawyers Co-operative Publishing Company in 1959, where he spent the rest of his professional career, over 30 years, in various roles, ultimately as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer & as a Member of the Board of Directors and the Executive Committee. During & after his working years, Seymour gave freely of his time, energy & resources to many different causes. He served as Chairman & member of the Board of Governors of the Genesee Hospital; member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Greater Rochester, Rochester Area Hospitals Corporation, Rochester Blue Cross, and Jewish Community Center of Greater Rochester; & member of the Board of Governors of the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra & the Jewish Home of Rochester. He also served on Merit Selection Panels for the Western District of New York, including for a Bankruptcy Judgeship and a Federal Magistrate, & as a Trustee of Freedom House & the Center for Governmental Research. Seymour will be remembered most for his perseverance, intelligence, hard work, integrity & humor. He was a devoted husband, father & grandfather, a caring & generous friend, & a passionate supporter of the many causes he believed in.
