Obituary of Monroe Jerome Hordon

Born in Brooklyn NY on March 3, 1933, & passed on September 12, 2017, at the age of 84. Monty was a graduate of Brooklyn Polytech. He served in the US Army as a 1st Lieutenant, then graduated MIT with a Ph.D. in Metallurgy, after which he spent a year of study at Uppsala Institute of Technology in Goteborg, Sweden. Monty worked as a scientist for Norton Research Corp. in Boston, MA before coming to Rochester in 1975 to work as a Senior Scientist for Xerox until his retirement in 2002.

He is predeceased by his parents Sidney Hordon & Betty Hordon  (Flacks). He is survived by his children, Nils (Adrian) Hordon & Kjirsti Hordon; grandchildren, Parker & Garrett; brothers, Robert (Sheila) & Harris (Carol) Hordon; aunt, Helene Flacks; nephews, Lonnie, Bruce, Robert Jr. & Daniel; niece Elana.

Monty will be remembered for his love & loyalty to his children & family. He was a thoughtful, non-judgmental man who loved the arts & history. In his younger days, he was an avid downhill skier in Stowe, VT. He loved sailing & playing chess. He was a gentle, kind & respected man, who loved a chilled gin martini, a good cigar & hated mashed potatoes.

Funeral arrangements will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in Monty's memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
