Obituary of Robert Rosenthal
Rosenthal, Robert
"Bob"/"Rosie"
Rochester: Peacefully on May 3, 2017 at age 77, from complications associated with Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by sister Davida (Bud) Michaels; niece Carol Michaels & many close friends. Predeceased by his parents, Max & Goldie & nephew, Murray Michaels.
Though born near Chicago, Bob grew up in Rochester. After graduation from Monroe High School, he attended the University of Pennsylvania, with a major in Business & then the University at Buffalo School of Law. While he excelled in his law studies he decided it wasn't for him. After a brief stint working in the financial sector, he joined Kolko Paper Company, Inc., beginning as a sales rep & progressing to Sales Manager.
He fell in love with golf as soon as he was old enough to swing a club. As an adult, he played the famous Bally Bunion in Ireland, as well as many pro-tour courses in the U.S. He was a member at Penfield Country Club and Blue Heron Hills. His off-season competitive spirit found its outlet in racquetball and platform tennis to the sorrow of many a challenger.
Bob rediscovered bridge in his sixties, becoming an avid and wily competitive player, quickly achieving the rank of Silver Life Master through matches at local and regional tournaments.
Bob's life was full of enduring friendships. He had a special, hard-to-define quality that drew people to him. It was a combination of his keen sense of humor, his authenticity, his gentle and respectful manner, his courage in facing adversity. He will be greatly missed.
A celebration of his life is being planned. Anyone interested in receiving a notice of the gathering may notify Dave Murphy at dgrjl@aol.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lollypop Farm on behalf of Bob and his best feline friends, "Frick and Frack".
