As having met Mrs Birnbaum and knowing the Flaum family as well as we do, one can see her strenght and character in her children and grandchildren. There is no better legacy.

Ilene and Jay-
Vicki passed along the very sad news of your loss. Please trust our hearts pour-out to the extended Birnbaum and Flaum families. Regret that we were unable to attend the service, as we returned home last evening...and Lin and I are headed to New England later this morning. Candidly, extending our sympathies via online may not suffice, but I only hope that you can detect the genuine sincerity of our sentiments. I had the good fortune to make your mother's acquaintance, but did not know her well. Yet this I know for sure. Based on your strength of character and integrity, I can state with certainty that your mom was a magnificent person. Her greatest legacy will be the way that you live your lives..and the qualities that you instill in your children. Lin and I cherish our friendships with you both. And Courtney and Hunter hold Asher, Loren and Sara in the highest of regards. Lets hope those are friendships that last a life-time. Finally, having experienced a great personal loss in the past, I hope it is comforting for you to know that the raw pain you must be feeling at present, will one-day be replaced by love-filled memories...and feelings of gratitude that your mom so richly deserves. Please know that the entire Rapp family have you in our thoughts. May god bless.
Respectfully and with love, Lin and CJ

To the family of Janice:
Our most sincere sympathies.
It is always very diffcult to loose someone that has meant so much to you in so many ways, but Jewish mothers are a very special breed, and Janice is one of that group.
Having known her from the real estate stories she told me when I attended the family simchas, and what Abby related to me over time about her tenacity and drive, I know she deserves her place among this group.
Rest assured, like all Jewish mothers, she will be watching over all her children. How wonderful that she got to see a great gandchild, and now she will get to watch over her family from a place of eternal peace. There will be many times to come when you will hear yourself say something, or do something, and think "is Mom here" or "I sound just like my Mom", or "that is something my mother would say" becasue she is watching over you, protecting you, and being there for you when you need her most.
All our best for these times,
Howie and Linda Carr

I would like to extend my sympathy to Janice's Family on her passing. I am the Art Therapist at the Jewish Home of Rochester. My center is possible because of Janice's kind gift to the Home, not only the funding but her special selection of colors, wallcoverings and final design. Janice will always be with us for this mitsvah that has enabled me to better serve our family of residents.
Please accept my condolences in your time of loss.

To All the Flaums & Birnbaum families
In times like this everyone appreciates the bond of family. All of you over the years have had the opportunity to not only have a Mom, Grandmother, and now Great Grandmother, but a women with spirit, love and most of all dedication to what she believed in. The strength of her convictions were always apparent, along with her compassion for those she cared about. Now at the end of her life, you can all feel proud as you both mourn her passing, but celebrate her legacy. We are sorry we cannot be with you today, but wanted you to know that our thoughts and prayers are in the house.

Unfortunately I never had the pleasure to meet Janice but I did talk to her over the phone many times and she always was a very pleasant person and a joy to talk too. Anyone who can come from nothing to become what she was is a hero in my book. A hard worker, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, she will be missed.
