Obituary of Howard Cherin
June 6, 2017 at age 90. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Rita. Survived by daughters Margaret (Doug) Colburn of Rochester & Gail Long of Ashburn, Virginia; grandchildren, Robyn (Jason) MacBride, Steve Colburn, Amanda & Alison Long; great-grandchildren Nathan & Nora MacBride; sister Leona (Charles) Stern, brother Jack (Susan) Cherin, sister-in-law Natalie (Milton) Kopelman, numerous nieces & nephews, many friends.
Howard was born and grew up in Brooklyn, NY but lived in Staten Island for 60+ years before moving to Rochester to be closer to family. In Staten Island he was the owner/operator of Faith Floors, Inc. & Howard's Carpets. He supported many local causes. Howard proudly served with the US Army's 4th Reconnaissance Squadron during World War II in Austria & Germany. He was a member of American Legion Post 468 in Rochester.
Howard’s interests included sports, the NY Giants, political & worldwide news, watching CNN, & traveling. He liked to go out to eat, especially for breakfast. He was a connoisseur of neighborhood diners & made friends wherever he ate. His sense of humor was legendary. Most of all, Howard loved his family & enjoyed being part of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives.
Howard's Family would like to thank the loving staff at GrandeVille Assisted Living Facility in Greece for their compassion, excellent nursing care, and concern for all his needs. With grateful appreciation to the entire staff, especially “Mary-Mary,” Erica, Liz, Terry and Jessica.
